开场白
Rich: It's the morning after the day when Microsoft revealed its latest xbox showcase titles. Huge amount of games on display perhaps not so much of the new SeriesX console which is a bit of surprise.
Rich: It's difficult to ascertain how much of the console we're going to be seeing in this conference because it's not clear on any of the content what the content is actually running on. Is it SeriesX? Is it PC? What is it? We just don't know.

John: They have confirmed that this upcoming Halo showing here was actually PC version which is fascinating. I kind of get it like games are developed on PC primarily. But when you are showing off your new console, people want to really see what they are going to get.

Rich: This is coming off the back of the Sony event. They basically said right at the beginning, everything you are going to be seeing from now on is on Playstation5 and I consider that to be a powerful statement of authenticity . This is what you are going to be getting on the console that we want you to spend a lot of money on coming the end of the year. So I don't really appreciate the ambiguity in what we are going to be seeing here. I did ask in the behind closed door event last night what was running on. They didn't pick up the question. So that's not a good look. Is that an indication of the loading speed we're going to be seeing or is it just a cut? This is the other thing which is kind of frustrating for me is that the big deal about these new machines. Is this truly generational leap in storage? But we don't really see any kind of example of how powerful the SSD is.

John: Starting here his character model somehow it rubs me the wrong way. There is about the beard and the way the shadows falls on them and the skin shading that immediately I was like hmmm... Because you look at Halo5, its character models are already of at lease that quality on xbox1 if not more so.

Alex: 30fps cutscenes though on Halo5. One thing that I thought that didn't look too great here is the resolution of the shadows. That was something I did not see for example in the initial trailer I looked at last year where the shadows indoors from these indoor casting lights were pretty high resolution. So they are like flickering all over the master chief and his face right now. So that's why it looks really awkward usually.

John: They could really stand to use some near field shadows just on models during cutscenes maybe, or even during the gameplay, since the weapon model doesn't seem to have nice shadows on it.

Alex: The jeep we saw a second age there was quite a bit of pop-in. So there is one thing I need to talk about here is that everyone with these next-gen SSDs has been thinking that means the end of LOD and the end of pop-in. It really doesn't at all because the reason why you have pop-in for certain elements is because the GPU or the CPU could be the limiting factors as well.

Rich: Just a general note here guys. I'm reviewing the 4K60 assets that was released after the livestream. It looks 10 times better that the livestream which looks horrible.

Alex: I do think there is what we are seeing is some last-gen here for certain aspect specifically the lighting.

John: I guess we were talking about this. This game has been in development for a while. It was clearly this game being created for xbox1 and based on the legacy with Halo5. And the initial trailers for this, I'm also sure that they were going for 60fps large scale Halo game on xbox1. That's very ambitious. And now we have to get this out on SeriesX as well. They can't just rebuild everything. There's no next-gen button for this game in this far development.

Rich: The livestream just massacred the quality. For me reviewing it on this higher quality asset, it looks a ton better, a lot of the fine grained detail on the ground was completely absent in that livestream. All you got was a flat presentation.

Rich: I'm kind of left wanting to see a lot more now and I think they have got more to prove on this.

John: It's like there are open world games this gen that look more impressive than this that run at 30fps. But they run at 30fps on a sub 2T flops machine 2013 hardware. You would expect to see that fidelity and more at 60fps on a next-gen machine. And I think that's why people are confused and disappointed here.

Alex: Seeing that engines that are built for the next-gen as they scaled higher. One of the things that makes engine scales higher is supporting next-gen features that are obvious ray tracing. And in that entire thing that we saw of Halo Infinite just now, whatever the platform it was running on, maybe it's PC or it's XSX, it didn't show off any bit of ray tracing. And then they announced after the fact that it's going to have ray tracing patch. I don't know if it's the great way to show off your next-gen game is without one of the next-gen features.

John: Clearly it's not ready.

Alex: Why it's not ready then. I guess these is some questions of development pace.

John: I don't even know that feels like it needs to be delayed somehow.
