这是个老生常谈的问题了，然而大家关注的焦点一直在 US 这2个字母上，却忽略了前面的 last 这个词，这个词是什么意思呢？真的可以翻译为“末日”吗？
根据百度翻译，

LAST的名词意思就这2个，其他都是限定词或者说形容词、副词和动词用法，是不能放在of前面的。
那对于第1个意思和用法，最后来的人(或发生的事) ，如果要把US当做“美国”来解释，那就解释不通了，美国最后来的人？明显和末日没关系。
美国最后发生的事？似乎和末日能扯上关系，但是请注意看英文解释：he person or thing that comes or happens after all other similar people or things！必须是和其他类似事做比较的，没有比较，单单一个 the last of US 是没法适用这个意思的。而且在用法上，后面一般也要跟上不定式 to+动词。
对于第2个意思和用法，仅剩下的部分，如果of后面跟的是“美国”(先不说还缺了个the)，那美国剩下的部分是什么？难道是指美国剩下的一点领土吗？就算是这样，也和美国末日没有任何关系。

而不可能单单一个the last of US，这是完全不符合语法，不符合last这个词的用法的。我们虽然经常调侃说老美语法很差，让他们做我们的英文卷子可能还不及格，但在游戏名称这么重要的问题上还是不会犯错误的。
你要双关可以，但至少意思和语法得对吧？意思和语法都不符合，老美会用这么不专业的双关吗？
由此可见，the last of us无论如何都没法被翻成“美国末日”！那些说翻成“美国末日”也不是不可以的人，是双关的人，不要再继续固执己见，继续一厢情愿地误会下去了。
