今天日本陆上自卫队土浦驻屯地的武器学校开放日活动上展出的20式5.56毫米步枪，采用了FDE 沙色涂装，该校的博物馆里还有进口的HK416和SCAR，也是FDE配色，用于同日本丰和工业HOWA 5.56一同进行对比测试，陆上自卫队最终选择了在第二次评估中得分最高的HOWA 5.56，经过部分改进后被命名为20式5.56毫米步枪(20式5.56ミリ小銃)。批量生产单价为280,000日圆(1.9万人民币)，包括维护及操作成本。
