Mysuru: MBA student from Mumbai gang-raped near Chamundi foothills

MYSURU: A 22-year-old MBA student who went on a ride with her classmate was allegedly gang-raped by a group of six youths on a secluded stretch at the Chamundi foothills on Tuesday night. The man riding the bike, a local resident, was also thrashed, police said.

The woman, from Mumbai, was admitted to hospital with injuries and in a state of shock. She could speak to police only on Wednesday and a case has been filed. One person reportedly working as a mason has been detained for questioning.

CM Basavaraj Bommai said he has directed DGP Praveen Sood to ensure that the culprits are arrested at the earliest. Home minister Araga Jnanendra said a special investigation team has been formed to nab the culprits. “No one involved in the crime will be spared,” district minister ST Somashekar said.

The layout in east Mysuru — about 7km from Mysuru Palace — abuts the Chamundi Hills reserve forest and is usually secluded and unlit.

The attackers tried to pull her off the bike and when her friend objected, they beat him up. They then dragged her to another place and sexually assaulted her. They threatened the duo against going to police and fled the spot.
