印度政府消息人士称，从美国采购的72400支西格绍尔SIG 716 G2精确射手步枪已经获得交付，目前正运往前线，给部队换装。SIG 716是一种使用中口径全威力弹(7.62X51mm)的射手步枪，尤其适用于高原地带。印军计划用其替代老旧的SVD狙击步枪，但印度仍无法生产北约7.62X51mm步枪弹，完全依赖进口。
