在格斗游戏中，为了防止某一方玩家一直消极防御，游戏通常都会设置一个破防值(guard gauge)，在防御状态下连续遭受攻击会累积这个值，到达极限之后再遭受攻击就会“防御崩坏(guard crush)”出现短时间不可进行操作的硬直，也就是俗称的“破防”。这时对手再继续追击就可以造成大伤害。
