500,000 graphics cards found in an abandoned container
The RTX 3070, 3080 and 3090 are still hard to find. A shortage favored by strong demand, excessively long production cycles and the global pandemic, which does not make things easier. Good news however, since a South Korean port operator has just got hold of a lost shipment of 500,000 GeForce RTX 3000 cards!

It’s a habit that players must have quickly acquired at the end of 2020: shortages. Whether for the PS5, the Xbox Series X, or in this case the latest GeForce RTX 3070, 3080 and 3090, it took patience, anticipation and a little luck to hope to get the precious sesame to its exit.
In the case of Nvidia, the manufacturer has confirmed that it would be complicated to have a GeForce RTX 3070 or 3080 for Christmas. Blame it on excessively long production cycles, and the current health crisis which complicates manufacturing and shipping. Until then, Nvidia had been relatively silent on RTX 3000 stocks, suggesting that there was something wrong with it.
A simple administrative error
And indeed, there was one, or rather 500,000! We learned this Monday, December 28, 2020 that Choi Min-Sik, a port employee in South Korea, has unearthed a stray cargo of 500,000 GeForce RTX 3000 in a container. The employee in question had spotted boxes stamped Nvidia in a container absent from the registers.
His curiosity aroused, the employee (himself a player and waiting for an RTX 3080) decides to open a box. To his surprise, the boxes were full of RTX 3080 ! Neither one nor two, Choi warns his superiors of his discovery. After investigation, it turns out that these 500,000 Nvidia graphics cards were placed in this container. without proper documentation, after their manufacture in August by Samsung.
Due to an administrative error, the cards were not recorded in the shipping company delivery register. Fact, the container has disappeared from radar, him and his cargo. Following this discovery, Nvidia confessed to having lost these cards several months ago, without being able to get their hands on them.

Nvidia now able to meet demand
“We’ve been asking Samsung for this shipment for months. They told us that she had already left the factory, but then they did not present us with any document proving that she had arrived at her destination ”, Jeff Fisher, vice president of Nvidia and head of the GeForce division, said in a statement to the company’s shareholders.
Nvidia has indicated that these cards will obviously be added to current stocks and announced that it would be able to respond more effectively to strong demand. The discovery also did a lot of good for shares of Nvidia, which began to rebound after several consecutive weeks of decline. As a reminder, MSI recently deplored the theft of 40 cases of GeForce RTX 3090 in one of its warehouses. The amount of the burglary is estimated at more than 280,000 euros.
